How to Find and Create Your Unique Photography Style in 3 Simple Steps

Photography is a beautiful art form that allows us to capture life’s most precious moments. However, many photographers struggle to develop a unique style that sets them apart from the rest. In a world where anyone can buy a camera and start calling themselves a photographer, it’s essential to create a style that is uniquely your own. In this blog post, we’ll share three simple ways to help you find and create your own unique photography style.

1. Create a Collage of Inspiring Photos

In order to create your unique brand and style as a photographer, it’s essential to nail down what you find beautiful and what you are drawn to. I suggest going on Pintrest and finding photos that visually represent what you love. This can be anything from pretty home photos, photography, nature, colors – you name it! Next, create a beautiful collage out of these photos and put them as your screensaver. This way, you’ll be reminded daily of what you’re wanting to create with your photography and brand.

When you’re looking for inspiration, don’t limit yourself to photography alone. Look at paintings, illustrations, and other forms of art to get a broader perspective. The more diverse your sources of inspiration, the more unique your photography style will be.

2. Incorporate Creativity and Play into Your Sessions

Inform your clients before their session that after all the “standard shots”, the last part of the session will be filled with lots of creativity and play. Use THIS TIME as a way to incorporate your creative flare! This will give you the freedom to experiment and try new things, while still delivering the shots that your clients expect.

During the session, try different angles, lighting, and poses to create a unique look and feel. Encourage your clients to relax and have fun, and use your creativity to capture their personalities and emotions. You can also try different outfits and props to add a unique element to your photos.

3. Use Props and Accessories

Using props and accessories can help you create a unique look and feel for your photos. If you’re shooting portraits, adding a few props or accessories can make all the difference. Think outside the box and try using unexpected items that will add an element of surprise to your photos. This will help set your work apart and give you a signature style that people will recognize.

When choosing props and accessories, consider the mood and style you want to convey. For example, if you’re shooting a romantic couple’s session, you might use candles, flowers, and soft lighting to create a dreamy atmosphere. If you’re shooting a family portrait, you might use props that represent their interests or hobbies.
